Perkins career night too much for Lakers
Kobe Bryant came into Boston looking to help the Lakers continue their winning way, but Kendrick Perkins and company had other plans. Perkins career night of 21 points and 9 rebounds, which included numerous dunks, kept the crowd in the game and the Lakers defense off balance. Trying to account for the Big Three opened things of for Perk all game. Kevin Garnett continued his MVP play with a 21 point 11 rebound performance.
The TD Banknorth Garden was reminiscent of the old time Celtics-Lakers games with chants of Beat LA reverberating through the arena. Ellen Pompeo of Greys Anatomy and Arnold Schwarzenegger were in attendance giving the game some Hollywood feel.
Kobe Bryant had a tough fist half, but did manage to drop 28 points on a night when boos rained down every time he touched the ball. The lack of support allowed the C’s to build a 22 point lead during the third quarter, but Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were too much firepower to go along with Garnett and Perk.
It was nice to see the green and white get the better of the rivalry that has been dominated by the Lakers over the last few years. The 13 point margin of victory is the biggest for the Celtics over the Lakers since 2002. The win snapped a three game winning streak for the Lakers and upped the Celtics league best record to 10-1. Next up for the Celtics will be the Charlotte Bobcats Sunday evening.
