Ray Allen lifts Celts past Raptors

After a blowout opening game win at home against the Washington Wizards the new Big Three had to go to overtime to get their record to 2-0.  Another new member of the revitalized Celtics was the key to a closer than anticipated road win in Toronto. Ray Allen finished the game just as hot as he started with a last second 3 pointer with 2 seconds remaining to seal the victory.  Allen had a 13 point first quarter and finished the game with 33 after hitting his baseline game winning shot.   Kevin Garnett picked the right time to shine as he scored 10 of his 23 points in the extra session to finish with 23 points and 13 boards for his second double-double as a Celtic.

The green and white led by as many as 11 points, but Toronto staged a strong fourth quarter comeback behind Chris Bosh and TJ Ford.  Both made baskets in the last minute to force the overtime and Paul Pierce missed a last second jumper from the top of the key to win it at the end of regulation.  In the end though Allen’s complete game led to the 95-98 win for the new look Celtics.

Today was also a day of milestones for Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.  Pierce moved into sixth place on the Celtics all time scoring list  passing Sam Jones with his 13 point performance.  Ray Allen surpassed the 17,000 point barrier during the game that highlighted why the Celtics were so high on picking him up during the off season.
